Welcome to muSaaS.
A community of Micro-SaaS Entrepreneurs.
Thank you for signing up for the newsletter. This is our first newsletter. We bring you interesting stories, articles, and ideas. We learn from entrepreneurs as they share their journey, challenges, and strategy that worked for them.
Every week, we go live with an entrepreneur and learn from their journey, challenges faced, and opportunities in Micro-SaaS. Last week, we went live with Ashutosh, founder of Clappia.
Although, they are not technically a Micro-SaaS company, Ashutosh joined us as Clappia is powering many Micro-SaaS startups from their no-code platform. It has been a very interesting chat.
Key point - How a non-tech entrepreneur setup a Micro-SaaS startup in less than 3 weeks, got their first paying customer in another week or so, and now doing ~50L per annum. All this, with just a team size of 2-3 people, from a tier-2 city in India. Isn’t that amazing?

This week, we are going live with Punit, founder of EasyEcom. Join us to learn more about their journey.
How they started and operated as a Micro-SaaS, how covid gave them an opportunity to scale up, and how they are transitioning to a Big-SaaS company now.
Join us Live this Saturday, 6th March at 8 p.m. (Youtube Link)
What is Micro-SaaS?
The most common question I get asked is, "What is Micro-SaaS?" So, let's start with that.
There are 3 tenents of a Micro-SaaS company.
TAM - The addressable market size is small (micro). Unlike a big-SaaS company, you are not looking at a $100Mn or more market size. Even a $1m TAM is fine. You could also start in a big market, (e.g. email marketing) but focus on a small gap. (The TAM could increase later, and you can transition to Big-SaaS then.)
Team Size - You would be able to run this business with a 2-3 member team, and might grow at max to 5-6 members. You do not plan to hire and grow to a 20-30 member team from the start.
Funding - By design, Micro-SaaS does not attract VC, Angel investor funding. You will start with your own money. And you will use your customer money to grow.
Big-SaaS vs Micro-SaaS Mindset
More than anything else, Micro-SaaS is a mindset change. Both Big-SaaS and Micro-SaaS are software products which are offered as a service. However, the way we approach both are polar opposites.
Most entrepreneurs are preached to “go big or go home”. Only 1 out of 1000 entrepreneurs succeed in the chasing this theme. While it is a great thumb-rule for investors, it does not work out well for 999 out of 1000 entrepreneurs.
In case of Micro-SaaS, the constraints help in operating right. Prioritizing revenue generation over valuation. Be the best at solving one problem, versus be an average at solving many problems. Invest time in talking to your customers, versus chasing investors. And more.
